故事紧紧围绕古画《金刚山图》展开，徐智允（李英爱饰）是一位韩国美术专业的大学讲师，一场事故将她牵扯到古朝鲜的历史悬案当中，偶然间，她发现了申师任堂（李英爱 饰）的日记和美人图中的秘密，之后往返于过去和现代，层层进入揭开事实。李谦（宋承宪饰）是朝鲜时代艺术人聚集地“比翼堂”的主人，虽然拥有自由的灵魂，但是却处在家庭的严格压抑之下，在遇到申师任堂之后，他的人生也发生了变化。
