约翰尼·肯德尔（Johnny Kendall）是一名嗜好开枪的警察，他被警方解雇后，被迫在淡季做一份检查夏季空置房屋的工作。他的女友珊迪找了一份女招待的工作，试图帮助他们维持生计。在工作中，约翰尼发现前任副警长因与一名身份不明的女子在一处空置的避暑别墅中偷情而被解雇。后来，当约翰尼看到前副警长在桑迪身边闲逛时，他开始嫉妒并疑神疑鬼。一天晚上，当他认为两人在一起时，他拿起枪开始寻找他们。他来到空无一人的避暑别墅，发现其中一间被撬开了。他在里面听到了前副警长和一个女人的声音。他在黑暗中开枪杀死了他们。他打开灯，发现那个女人不是珊迪，而是警长的妻子。
