故事发生在风景如诗如画的圣巴巴拉，肖恩出生于警察世家，毫不意外地，身为刑警的父亲亨瑞将未来的希望全部寄托在了儿子的身上，希望他能够子承父业。从很小的时候起，亨瑞便开始有意识的训练肖恩的观察力和逻辑推理能力，所以，当肖恩逐渐长大成人之时，他依然具备了以生俱来的刑侦能力。 对于别人来说，肖恩所展现出的种种才华无异于是“特异功能”，但只有肖恩自己知道，这些才华给他带来了多少的压力和负担。然而，最终，在好友古斯的影响和帮助之下，肖恩还是走上了刑侦的道路。
