一直以来，弗朗索瓦（让-克劳德·德鲁奥 Jean-Claude Drouot 饰）与妻子孩子过着平静而又幸福的生活。一次偶然中，弗朗索瓦结识了伊美利（Marie-France Boyer 饰），让弗朗索瓦做梦也没有想到的是，伊美利竟然是如此的让他感到心动，为此不惜背叛家庭。 就这样，弗朗索瓦徘徊在两个女人之间的生活开始了，他既没有因此而怠慢妻子，却也没有因为自己的不忠而感到内疚，恰恰相反，这段双重生活竟然成为了他生命中最为幸福和充实的日子。终于，弗朗索瓦将自己有外遇的事情告诉了妻子。没过多久，妻子溺水生亡，伊美利替代她正式成为了弗朗索瓦家中的一员，日子还在继续，但对于弗朗索瓦来说，有些东西永远的失去了。
