失意恐怖小说作家里安遭遇创作瓶颈，同时深陷失恋打击，为赶稿交差、挽救事业，独自住进偏僻老旧汽车旅馆，创作一部追杀题材的血腥砍杀小说。 他笔下主角名叫凯蒂，是一名心理咨询师，正被一名疯狂 stalker 持续追杀。诡异的事情接连发生：他写下的每一段杀戮情节，都会在现实世界1:1复刻上演；旅馆隔壁房间恰好住着一位现实里名叫凯蒂的女性，正一步步走向他文字设计好的死亡结局。一边是催稿的经纪人限期逼迫他写完结局，一边是笔下的死亡剧情不断变成真实命案，里安被迫不断修改剧情、改写死亡桥段，试图阻止现实中的凯蒂遇害。但他每一次改动，都会催生更凶残、无法控制的杀人走向，虚构杀手彻底挣脱文字束缚，开始反过来猎杀作者本人。
