Oh Dae-su, bir gün kendisini küçük karanlık bir hücrede bulur. Oraya kimler tarafından ve niye kapatıldığını bilmeyen adamın dünyayla bağlantısı sadece hücresindeki küçük televizyondur. Haberlerde karısının öldürüldüğünü duyunca olayla bağlantısı olduğu düşünüldüğü için kapatıldığını anlar. 15 yıl sonra, serbest bırakılan adam, ailesini öldüren kişileri bulmaya ve kendisini oraya kapatanlardan intikam almaya karar verir.
