Sir Richard Charles Nicholas Branson ist ein englischer Unternehmer und Investor, bekannt als Gründer der Virgin Group mit über 400 Unternehmen. Bereits mit sechzehn Jahren gründete er sein erstes Unternehmen, ein Magazin namens „Student“. 1970 eröffnete er einen Schallplattenversandhandel. 1972 folgte die Eröffnung der Plattenladenkette Virgin Records, später Virgin Megastores. Bransons Marke Virgin wuchs in den 1980er-Jahren rasant, als er Virgin Atlantic gründete und das Musiklabel Virgin Records ausbaute. Laut der Forbes-Liste der Milliardäre von 2012 ist Branson mit einem geschätzten Vermögen von 4,6 Milliarden US-Dollar der sechstreichste Brite.
